Novatel Wireless and MobileOne, launched the MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, making MobileOne the first Asian operator to offer a MiFi device. The MiFi 2352 supports triband HSPA (900/1900/2100Mhz) and quadband GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900Mhz). The MiFi 2352 being such an exciting product is that it is SIM-unlocked, which makes it compatible with SIM cards from nearly any cellular provider. Travelling with ultraportable MiFi abroad is now possible and should be easy to do.

The device has a built-in battery, does not need an external power source and can offer downlink and uplink speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and 5.76 Mbps respectively. In offering a MiFi compatible with the GSM standard, Novatel Wireless is nearly quadrupling the MiFi’s potential market.

Since the MiFi 2352 has on-board GPS, there will be location-based applications developed to run on the MiFi’s Linux operating system. By having applications run off a microSD card in the MiFi, users will conveniently be able access those applications from any device with access to the MiFi. Imagine the convenience of being able to connect to always-on location-based applications–applications like the iPhone offers–but being able to do that without being tethered to any one device! Suddenly, all of a user’s WiFi compatible devices become smarter, more informative, and more efficient.

The MiFi 2352 shines for another reason: its superior connection speeds. Download speeds average 7.2 Mbps, and upload speeds average 5.76 Mbps when connected to a HSPA network. Compare those speeds to a MiFi 2200, where download speeds average 1Mbps, and uploads average 5Mbps when connected to a CDMA network.

The MiFi 2352 will be available at M1 Shop from this Thursday. Consumers can also check it out at COMEX 2009. Pricing details will be announced at launch.

It seems that Rogers is getting really aggressive lately. After announcing netbooks with embedded 3G wireless, and giving their Internet users 50 Mbps speeds, Rogers has announced that they will become the first telco in North America to roll out HSPA+ which will give users speeds of up to 21Mbps anywhere they can get a cell signal.

While this is cool for Canadians and a pretty big coup for Rogers, there is one thing that stops me from jumping up and down. Canada has some of the highest cellular phone rates in the world. So it really doesn’t matter how fast my cellular data connection goes if I can’t afford it. How high are Canadian cell phone rates? Here’s an example of what the rest of the world pays.

While on a business trip to Germany last year, I sat beside a guy on a high speed train from Aachen to Frankfurt Airport who had a laptop with embedded 3G (7.2Mbps which is faster than my DSL connection at home). We got to talking and I asked how much he was paying for that connection. He was paying 35 Euros a month for unlimited cellular data access to the Internet. That’s about $50 USD for an UNLIMITED connection.

I can’t think of many telcos in Canada who have unlimited plans that are that reasonable (if they have them at all). Oh yeah, his connection was live even when the train went into tunnels at 250 + Km/h. As an aside, my Blackberry was working in said tunnels as well, which is not the case in Canada. So it shows how evolved the cellular infrastructure is in Europe as well as the fact that their rates are far more reasonable.

Perhaps this will be solved when Globalive jumps into the fray? One can only hope. But until then, enjoy those high speeds…. If you can.

In an effort to show T-Mobile’s customers that they deserve something newer than the wing, it appears that the HTC Touch Pro2 will be coming on August 12 while the Samsung Gravity 2 (SGH-t469) is going to be available on August 19, reports the Cellphonesignal.

In a show of good cheer, the device will be available in all channels at launch, in a rare gesture, even employees will be able to purchase the device. More info, read below .

With a target audience of “successful professionals” (as opposed to unsuccessful ones?), the Touch Pro2 will offer Microsoft Outlook Exchange Sync, 3G, and a QWERTY keyboard.

Meanwhile, the Gravity 2 (SGH-t469) features a slide-out horizontal QWERTY keyboard and sports a thinner design. The Gravity 2 comes in two color options – berry mauve and metallic pumpkin, multiple messaging capabilities, a 2-megapixel camera and camcorder, a built-in MP3 player and expandable memory up to 16GB.

Granted, T-Mobile can be late to the party from time to time, but it’s nice to see that they’re picking up some new smartphones. No word on pricing yet, however, but if the pricing is in the right area could open up good options for all mobile phone fans around the globe.

Besides GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA connectivity, the router also offers a built-in GPS receiver and memory expansion via the devices included MicroSDHC card slot, an option that can support up to 16GB, although you’re probably going to get it for that 3G-sharing feature.

There’s still no pricing available, heck we’d even settle for a release date. What we do known is that the European version was released in June which means the NAM version should be following suit in the near future.

As already reported, the Android developing team plans to come to the market with a series of new firmware version and major updates for the platform during the ongoing year, of course one of the upcoming updates would be Android 2.0, also known as Donut.

The new firmware version is reportedly much more stable and coming with a lot of bug fixes, which means that there might not be visible things included in the package.

Well, there’s nothing official about it, it’s said that Donut will bring you multitouch support, universal search, automated backups, text-to-speech features, a new camera application and a general improved performance. Therefore, as soon as Donut becomes available, users should see another minor update heading their way, one that will most probably fix some of the bugs that Android 2.0 will come with. Of course, those who will receive the new update should notice that the build number has moved from CRB43 to CRC1.
